To save you from unpleasant surprises at the start of the ski season, we have compiled the most important tips & tricks for its correct storage for you.

Prevent rust

One of the biggest dangers to avoid when storing winter sports equipment is the accumulation of rust. The unprotected edges of snowboards and skis are particularly vulnerable, but parts of the binding can also be affected. After the last use, it is therefore of utmost importance to remove all snow residues and to dry the device thoroughly. In addition, it is highly recommended to smooth the edges with an edge grinder. Often, small amounts of rust already settle on the edges during the ski season, which can spread undisturbed over the summer months. Binding spray protecting against oxidation and corrosion can also be recommended as additional protection. Small addition: For long-term storage, close the binding on both skis and snowboards!

Repair lining

If you have used the sports equipment intensively during the winter months, you will most likely end up with some quirks and scratches in the surface. In order to find the equipment ready for use again right at the beginning of the season, it is therefore advisable to repair annoying signs of use with hot wax before storing. If you leave this to a specialist, you will also save yourself even higher prices and long waiting times at the beginning of the ski season. If, despite your lack of experience, you would like to wax your skis or snowboard yourself, you can find out how to do it here in 10 minutes what you need to know.

Correct pitch

Once the edges, base and binding have been prepared for the long summer months, the next step is to find the right place to store your equipment. As a general rule, direct sunlight and temperature fluctuations should be avoided at all costs. UV radiation damages the plastic in the long run and changes in temperature can lead to condensation and thus rust deposits. It is therefore recommended to use attics, basement rooms or even storage compartments from self-storage providers if there is a lack of space within your own four walls. Especially Basement can often be affected by high humidity, which is why you should check in advance whether it is suitable for storing skis and other equipment containing metal. equipment should think about in advance.

Shoes

Ski or snowboard boots should definitely be cleaned before storage, although of course this depends a bit on the frequency of use. To do this, detach the inner shoe from the shell and wash in the washing machine with mild detergent. Then stuff with newspaper and leave to dry for a few days. Drying over the radiator is not recommended, as the material may eventually become brittle. To store, return the liner to the shell and be sure to close the buckle. This ensures that the boot maintains its optimal fit and allows even after several years of skiing or snowboarding fun.
